I've given up...

...on pinwheels, I love the movement they give a scrappy old quilt, but couldn't make up my mind on what to do with them,,,
So, I took all of my 240+ "leaders and enders" and ironed themand sorted them so I would not repeat the same HST in a block, I was very careful!and I squared them up, and I squared them up....And, yes, then I squared them up....and put them together,,,,and I STILL got two of the same HST in one block (probably many blocks) ok, I happen to have a nifty little "unsewing tool" for just such an occasion. Guess what I'll be doing this evening?
Does anybody know the name of this block? I have seen it, but I never knew the name. You all know I'm pattern-impared, so I cannot follow by all the beautiful patterns out there, (maybe that should be my next goal) I have to "see" it, then I can figure out in my head how to make them. It's a pain, but I can live with it. I could not find my way out of my own kitchen with either a pattern or a recipe,,,I sew and cook by feel.
Last week, we had the girls, and we are acostomed to finding little notes around the house that say "We Love you" and sweet little girl sayings...But I was intrigued when I saw this one on the buffet, to: world
from: Liberty

"I bleavan fairy's"

so, I'm spreading the word,,,now all the world knows, Lib,

Hope all your fairy's are as precious as this one!

Hi Granny, love the play time with the HSTs...what fun! I have that same block going in both 2.5" and 3.5" pieces.
It's the one Bonnie and Tonya set up as a "fungly" challenge last year. They referred to it as "Jacks over siz". It has many names. One that come to mind is Double X I think that's true for many blocks, multiple names.
I've been meaning to ask you, are you enjoying the Sandra Dallas books? I've read most everything she's written, and have several of the ones on your bookshelf *VBS* Hugs, Finn

I came to your blog from Micki's. Congrats for being her September Star!

Oh, I know exactly what you mean about repeating the HST's even when you don't mean to in a blog. I am not quite sure about the name of the blog, but it looks like a pretty one.

Bleavan fairy's - that's tooo cute!

Congratulations Lyn on being Micki's September star. I was Micki's April star, it seemed like ages ago now!

I like scrap quilts too and I love the process of chain piecing the HST blocks. I am not so keen on trimming them - Hugs Natima

THose little HST are just trying to keep you on your toes - leave them - no one will ever notice.

And I love the note - how cute!

Love that little note! I also enjoyed your previous post about the bundles of love for Iraq.

I agree that I don't think people notice repeating like that in a large quilt. The differing fabrics give scrap quilts such movement that the eye really has to search to find them.

Hello Lyn. Like you, I sew by feel (for the cooking, I trust my husband who's doing it fine). As for the little contradiction, just put them aside: your project will be wonderful. Hugs

That is so sweet! A note to the world...she has big expectations. Those will be very nice to pull out later in life if you save them. I bet some day you could even copy them onto iron on material and make a quilt out of it. ;o) If you are feeling really adventurous.

Hi Lyn, came over from Micki's, after reading your interview. Lovely blog and so nice to 'meet' your family and see the lovely projects you have been working on. Have a wonderful day!

The pattern probably has many names but I learned it as Old Maid's puzzle.

I came from Micky's blog, congrats on being such a star!!

PS I believe in fairies too.
